How to Price Products for a Trade Fair Audience

Live-event buyers behave differently from browsing shoppers. Here is how to price, bundle and discount your trade fair catalog so it converts in the…

A buyer watching your stream on the Bifixit National LIVE Trade Fair has already decided to pay attention to you for the next few minutes. That is different from someone scrolling a product page at midnight comparing five tabs. Pricing for that moment needs a different logic than pricing for your regular shop.

Show the drop, not just the price

Live shoppers respond to visible movement. If your ring light earrings normally sell for ₦6,500, do not just list ₦5,000 during your slot — show both numbers on screen, cross out the ₦6,500, and say the discount out loud when you go live. The visual of a price falling in real time is what separates a live sale from a static discount banner. Buyers who tune in halfway through your slot should still be able to see what the offer was and what it has dropped to.

Price in round, sayable numbers

You are talking while you sell, not just displaying a tag. ₦4,999 reads fine on a product page but sounds clumsy said out loud fifteen times in twenty minutes. Round numbers like ₦5,000, ₦7,500 or ₦12,000 are easier to repeat, easier for viewers to do quick maths on, and easier to bundle. Save the psychological ₦x,999 pricing for your evergreen shop listings that people read rather than hear.

Bundle before you discount

Cutting your unit price is the last lever to pull, not the first. Before touching your margin, try bundling: three phone pouches for ₦4,000 instead of ₦1,500 each, or a skincare set with a free travel-size item added when someone buys during your slot. Bundling raises the average order value and protects your margin better than a straight percentage-off, and it still feels like a live-only deal to the person watching.

Keep a floor and do not undercut your own shop

It is tempting to slash prices hard to win comments and momentum on stream, but a price that collapses your margin during the event will look strange three days later on your normal Bifixit shop page — and your shop stays live and sellable after the trade fair weekend ends, replay included. Decide your real floor price before you go live: the number below which you are losing money once you account for delivery. Anything you offer on stream should sit above that floor, even during a flash moment.

Price for the categories buyers already trust

Fashion and beauty buyers expect to see a discount ladder — ten percent off, then twenty percent for the last five minutes of a slot. Electronics buyers are more sensitive to bundled accessories than to the raw price cut, since they are already comparing your unit against known market prices. Food and groceries buyers respond best to quantity pricing — a carton price beating five single-unit prices added together. Match your pricing tactic to what your category's buyers are used to negotiating on, whether that is in a Lagos market or a WhatsApp group.

Use scarcity honestly

If you only made 40 units of a design, say 40, and let the number count down as orders come in on screen. Real scarcity tied to real stock outperforms a vague limited-stock caption, and it protects your reputation for the shop link you will keep using long after 13 December.

Plan your last-ten-minutes price

Every slot should end with a final push — a deeper cut or an added freebie for the last few buyers before you close. Decide this number in advance rather than improvising under pressure while checkout notifications are coming in. A pre-planned closing offer keeps you from panic-discounting your entire margin away in the final minutes.
