How to Prepare Your Shop for a Livestream Trade Fair

A practical preparation checklist for vendors getting their catalog, checkout, and delivery ready ahead of a livestream trade fair slot.

Your broadcast slot is only as good as what happens the moment a viewer taps to buy. Plenty of vendors put all their energy into rehearsing what they will say on camera and forget that the shop behind the stream needs just as much preparation. Here is what actually needs to be ready before you go live.

Get your catalog checkout-ready first

Every product you plan to show during your slot needs an accurate price, an accurate stock count, and a working checkout link before you go live, not after. Nothing kills momentum during a broadcast faster than telling a viewer to tap and buy, only for the checkout to show the wrong price or an out-of-stock item you were actively holding up on camera. Go through your full catalog a week ahead and confirm every listing you intend to feature matches what is actually sitting in your inventory.

Retire anything you can't restock quickly

If a product is down to your last unit and you cannot restock it within your delivery window, either pull it from your live lineup or be upfront on camera that it is the very last one. Overselling a product you cannot fulfil creates exactly the kind of trust problem that undoes weeks of good customer relationships.

Set up your physical broadcast space

You do not need studio equipment, but you do need consistency. A few things matter more than expensive gear:

  • Lighting that doesn't shift, natural window light changes throughout the day, so if your slot runs long, plan for a light source that stays steady, like a ring light or a lamp positioned consistently.
  • A stable phone or camera mount, handheld footage during a product demo makes it hard for viewers to actually see the detail you are trying to show, whether that is stitching on fabric or a screen turning on.
  • A clean, uncluttered background, buyers are watching the product, not your room, so clear the frame of anything that pulls focus away from what you are selling.

Rehearse your actual slot, timed

Run through your full broadcast at the length your slot will actually be, out loud, with the products physically in front of you, not just as a mental read-through. Time yourself. Vendors consistently underestimate how long a real product demo takes once they are also handling comments and objections live. A timed rehearsal reveals where your pacing drags and where you are rushing past something worth slowing down for.

Prepare for the order spike, not just the broadcast

A good live slot can generate more orders in an hour than a normal week of listings. Before you go live, confirm your packaging materials are stocked, your delivery partner or courier knows a spike is coming, and someone on your team is free to start processing orders the moment they land, since same-city delivery targets of 24 hours only work if fulfilment starts immediately rather than the next morning.

Use the promotional materials before the day itself

Registered vendors receive creative promotional materials including event graphics, countdown assets, and caption templates. Do not save these for the day of your slot, post them in the weeks leading up to it on your own existing social pages so your regular followers already know your exact slot time before the fair begins. Your go-live moment auto-posts to Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook automatically on the day, but that only reaches people already watching Bifixit, your own pre-promotion reaches people who follow you specifically.

Write your script, but don't memorise it word for word

Have a structure ready: your opening hook, the order you'll show products in, your answers to the two or three objections you already know buyers raise about your category, and your closing line. Reading a script word for word on camera sounds stiff and buyers notice immediately. Knowing your structure cold lets you sound natural while still hitting every point you planned to make.

Do a full technical run-through the day before

Test your internet connection from the exact spot you'll be broadcasting from, confirm your device is charged or plugged in, and check that your checkout link actually works end to end by placing a small test order yourself if possible. Technical failures during a live slot are far harder to recover from than a stumble in your script.

Preparation is the unglamorous half of live selling, and it is exactly the half that determines whether your slot converts or fizzles.
