From Factory Floor to National Audience: A Manufacturer's Guide

A manufacturer's playbook for going from selling through distributors only to broadcasting directly to buyers nationwide during a live trade fair.

A manufacturer in Nnewi making plastic household goods might sell to six distributors, who sell to market traders, who sell to the person who actually uses the product. By the time that item reaches a buyer, three markups have been added and the manufacturer has no idea who bought it, why, or whether they would buy again. That is the normal shape of manufacturing in Nigeria: you make, you wholesale, and the retail relationship belongs to someone else entirely.

The distance between the factory and the buyer

This distance is not free. Every layer between you and the final buyer takes a cut and takes information with it. You do not see which colour sold out first, which price point buyers hesitated at, or which of your products gets asked about the most. You are manufacturing blind, reacting to purchase orders instead of demand signals.

A national live trade fair changes the shape of that relationship for one weekend, and potentially for good afterward. When you broadcast directly to buyers across the country, you are not removing your distributors — you are adding a channel where the factory talks to the customer with nothing in between.

What changes when you broadcast directly

During the Bifixit National LIVE Trade Fair on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December 2026, vendors get scheduled slots to go live and sell in real time, the way TikTok Shop LIVE works: buyers watch the stream and check out without leaving it. For a manufacturer, this means showing the actual production line, not a staged studio shot. Buyers respond to seeing the machine that makes the item, the quality check happening in front of them, and the person who has run that line for years explaining why the product holds up.

You can demonstrate things a product photo never will: durability tests, how a fabric behaves when stretched, how a container seals, how many units come off the line in an hour. That kind of proof builds trust faster than a polished advert, and it is exactly the kind of content that live commerce rewards.

Getting your factory floor camera-ready

You do not need a studio. You need three things sorted before your slot:

  • Lighting near the line — position your phone or camera where the work area already has good light, usually near a window or the brightest bay.
  • A clear path from demonstration to checkout — buyers watching need to see the product, hear the price, and be able to tap to buy within the same minute, so keep your slot focused on one or two product lines rather than your entire catalogue.
  • Someone who can talk while working — your best presenter is often the line supervisor or a long-serving worker, not a hired host who has never touched the machine.

Use the promotional support you are given

Registered vendors get creative promotional materials — event graphics, countdown assets, and caption templates — built for exactly this kind of content. Pair those with your own factory footage in the days leading up to the fair so your audience already knows your slot time before you go live.

Registering as a manufacturer

Nigerian vendors with a valid CAC business registration number get priority slot allocation, which matters if you want a peak-time slot on either day. If you manufacture food, cosmetics, or anything requiring regulatory clearance, your NAFDAC number needs to be in order before you register. The vendor fee is ₦100,000 if you register before 1 November 2026, rising to ₦150,000 after that date — and it is free if you are already on an active paid Bifixit subscription plan. Manufacturing sits comfortably across the Home & Living, Electronics, and Food & Groceries categories, so pick the one that matches your core line.

The weekend is the start, not the whole thing

What makes this different from a one-off exhibition is that your shop and your slot replay stay live and sellable after the event ends. A buyer who discovers your factory through a Sunday afternoon stream can still find your catalogue, priced and ready to check out, weeks later. Every go-live moment also auto-posts to Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook automatically, so your factory floor gets seen by people who never opened the live stream at all. Bifixit does not charge per-minute or per-viewer video fees, since the streaming infrastructure is self-hosted, so a longer, more thorough factory tour costs you nothing extra to run. For a manufacturer used to selling in bulk through middlemen, this is the first real chance to build a national brand around your own name, not your distributor's.
